Paper Plans.

Three of my favorite photos of my paper uni work.

Well actually... the last one is not a favorite photo, but a favorite exploration of weaving paper.I find that basic and complex geometry and architecture both (naturally) go hand in hand. That sounds silly because architecture is geometry, but I mean the sort of geometry you explored in year 8 maths.

I should like to explore paper architecture more.

I advise checking this page out! there are 5 more like it, just follow the page No. at the bottom. It is amazing work.

Folded Inspiration

A while since I have been here. In recent times (the last two weeks) I have been part of the set up a new Officeworks store, and what has been getting at me is the absolute excess of packaging. I have never seen so many boxes and bags. one product came in cardboard packaging, incased in plastic, this was then in a bubble wrap bag. This was then in a box of three, which in turn was in a bigger box with a few other boxes of three. This bigger box was inside another box (for a reason I am yet to figure out...)

It hurts my soul as a greenie.

But as a student of architecture, the folds and ingeniousness of some of the packaging intrigues me. This has led to my folded architecture post (as follows):

I have always found folding and intertwined paper a point of interest, and find that some of my favorite work from uni are simple paper models.

The Senedd...

Interior ceilings...
I was having a conversation with one of my fellow archi students the other day and she showed me a picture of a glorious interior roof. This in turn reminded me of a beautiful building I had seen in Cardiff in Wales. It is called The Senedd (National Assembly for Wales). I have taken the image below from the following website: http://www.flickr.com/photos/martinrp/2050058954/

Wallpaper.

This image caught my eye in Google images... and you can see why.
[ btw: It is actually stuck to a wall - note the heater in the bottom corner. ]

This one image got me off on a new strain of thought.... Wallpaper.

Does it have to be papered on anymore?

As usual in my quest to find extra images to support my 1 second cause I have discovered something...

It states that it is easy to buy... not down under.
This is a lovely find for 1.30am.
Bed now.

All deep and meaningful on you.

It's funny thinking about Adaption. I only moved here for uni. Straight out of home. Home... well that's an interesting concept. I went back to my childhood home for the Christmas holidays, and when I first came back up here - driving along one of the main roads to my house I got that feeling you get when you've been traveling and you arrive home. It totally freaked me out at first. I feel like have adapted to Brisbane so fast. And to city life. It is weird how 'home' changes.

What is home even?
Brisbane.
This is after all my home city - but is this what home is? At uni we got asked to answer a whole heap of questions about space. One of them was: 'Is beauty important in space'... even though my tutor may not see the answer here it is...

Yes. but something [Anything] doesn't have to be aesthetically pleasing to be beautiful.

[ From here down is Author photo's ].

I don't think that it is place which makes home. [A rather depressing thought for an architect student]. But I do think that it is place which allows home... maybe not the same, but I think good...

Adaption.

I am not really sure how to post a video, but this is amazing. It is a train running through the middle of some markets. I just love the immediateness of the markets return to regular function. The ability to adapt it so basic - but it still stuns me here in it's simplicity.

This - again - came from 'Inspiration Wall' [ http://lisastown.com/inspirationwall/2009/10/page/2/ ]

Living.

I love the way spaces can evolve around mood, people, change... anything. If I ever finish this degree (and actually use it - apparently only something around %30 of architecture students actually become architects... how depressing) I don't mind what sort of spaces I put out. As long as they allow and develop life, not inhibit it.

Living.
I have been looking at various living walls for inspiration for an assignment.
et suit:

One of the things I love most about living walls is when they are placed inside. Especially when they are contrasted against sleek metal, wood and glass combos.

I love the way this one looks like it is just a vegi garden (or maybe herbs) that has escaped and over-run it's pots.

I found both of these at the link above^^.
It is a site titled 'Garden Beet'. It has some other really cool living walls as well.

This image ^^ Comes from a different web site titled 'Inspiration Wall' [ http://lisastown.com/inspirationwall/2009/10/ ]. The building is in Osaka, Japan. As usual; the Japanese have everything down to a fin art and beauty. I know this isn't exactly 'living walls' But the whole complex has such a style and grace to it. What's more the building seems to complement and accentuate the plants.

Designer: Jon Jerde [Jerde Partnership Architects].
Where: Osaka, Japan.
When: October 28, 2003.

Magnetic curtians.

Today I found a website called Instadaily.
I especially enjoyed this magnetic curtain. Unfortunately it isn't on the market yet, but I love it and can't wait till it is.

This came from a list of '15 amazing examples of geeky decor'(http://www.homeqn.com/entry/15-amazing-examples-of-geeky-wall-dcor/). I also recomend checking this out. (follow the link down the side - Also check out their alcohol lamps).

Again my MUM sent me an email of these. Love.( Just google chalk artist sidewalk)

Following on from my side note (in the comments of the last post), being somewhat nocturnal has it's drawbacks. Lighting for someone who spends few hours than the usual in daylight, (and also for an avid bookworm)is always a point of interest. In light of mothers day (I inherited the book-worm disease from mum):
(I would love to give mum something like this for mothers day and shall now ebay it)

I lick my cheese.

The final (Well final one I will post) inspiration I got from the site was from this image:
From here I got distracted to letters, remembering in Harry Potter 2?? (I think) when the Weasley's send harry a letter completely covered in postage stamps... I've been meaning to do the same thing to my friend for a while now (since I first read the book like.... well over 10 years now.)
Wow. Harry Potter is old now.
This somehow (it made sense in my head) linked through to a book the said friend once showed me: I lick my cheese - and other notes from the frontline of flat sharing.

I thoroughly recommend  getting your hands on a copy!

That is all...

Leading on...

It also included this image:
This was quite intriguing and led me to this site:

Their home page had the following on it:

While I think that a new way of mapping the world is really cool, and sort of needed, I don't think I like the idea of my loss of identity as an Australian...

Where this began.

Browsing the internet I came across this site:

It included many amazing images, but these few really took my fancy:
